I just replaced the sm 420 tranny with a T5 witch works great so the truck will remain standard.
The brakes are the original set up, drums and no power assist witch work fine but i'm not anxious to find out how they came up with the suicide moniker

The fact is hundreds of thousands of vehicles ran around for decades with this type of braking system, and I don't recall seeing headlines in the papers every morning about the horrible accidents caused by this braking system. That being said we have the option of upgrading that system to a dual master cylinder braking system giving us one more layer of protection against accidents. For vehicles such as yours with a hydraulic clutch and having the brake master cylinder and clutch master cylinder in a common casting, converting to a dual master braking system can be a challenge. I am glad you found something that will allow you to convert to a dual master cylinder braking system. Now to track down the part you referenced so that I may educate myself. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | Seems it's mainly a set of brackets such that a single clutch master cylinder is fit in about stock location. Then hung out in front of the clutch MC so it clears is a vacuum booster and brake MC. Nothing real fancy or special, just a pretty straight forward solution. | | |
