I want to change to aluminum stud pilot (Budd)wheels. Will I have to change to longer mounting studs due to thickness difference between the aluminum and steel wheel? has anyone made this switch before? | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,903 | It might work on your steering axle, but you will probably need longer studs on the drive axle. Aluminum wheels are considerably thicker than steel. You will need longer inner nuts for the drive that are designed for aluminum wheels. This is the nut you will need. http://www.ryderfleetproducts.com/euclid-e5978l/cap-nut-dual-alum-full-thread-p-439-e5978lThe same part number ending in R will be right handed threads. | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,061 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,061 | Hy Icfman, yes you will definitely have to use longer wheel studs, you should make sure you can acquire the longer studs you will need before you purchase the wheels. | | |
