awsumtim (I like that name),

FI20IB is part of an engine serial number, which in 1962 (and 57-63) only provides a serial number and model number and assembly plant code.

F = 3100 truck 235
12 = December
01 = 1st
B = I cannot find that code for 1962 (maybe someone has better/more information)
B was used on Powerglide car 235s in 1962

Find and post block & head casting codes and date codes to better ID your engine.

If your engine is from a 1962 truck, here is decoding info.

1962 car codes.

cool thanks I guess chevy used a capitol I instead of a 1 in this case, that threw me off. does 3100 denote a GMC rather than a chevy?

Find the date casting codes and we can be more specific.

Look again at my post above, I added a little more information.

3100 is a Chevrolet 1/2 ton designation.

Also, USA GMC did not use 235s.

1. What serial number? The Vehicle Serial Number or Engine Serial Number?

2. K280 - block date casting code
most likely:
K = 11 = November
28 = 28th
0 = ?? = most likely 1960

3. 3789716 = ?

4. no useful for IDing anything

5. 3836848 - code used from 1956-1962

Is that serial number and/or "VIN"

on the plate between the hinges of the driver's side door,
and/or is it on the engine,
and/or is it on the title/registration?

NO NEED TO YELL

"1. serial # is 12 digits 2C154L106542 cant find charts that this number lines up with."

2 = model year =1962
C15 = truck type = 127" ("long bed") light delivery truck
4 = cab and pickup bed
L = assembly plant - maybe Los Angeles, CA (not listed for 1962)
106542 = 6,542th vehicle out of that plant that year

I think that photos are not allowed in profiles.

However, I think that links to photos are allowed. Add the link to a photo as text and see what happens.
