I am working through my local NAPA and Carquest parts stores to locate new wheel cylinders for my early 1947 GMC EC-302 truck. It appears that front cylinders are available. It does not appear that a direct replacement rear wheel cylinder is available. Carquest asked me to find out if a 1946 1 ton rear wheel cylinder is a possible/suitable replacement. Does anyone here have experience with interchange of wheel cylinder parts? Also, would it be a good idea to use the original type DOT brake fluid or would the synthetic brake fluid be a good update? Any help on these questions is appreciated.

Hy Big Al's, according to my Raybestos catalog the part number for the rear wheel cylinders for your truck is WC3677, that part is still available at RockAuto $65.79, at Napa the part number is UP3677 $47.25, hope that helps.

The wheel cylinders are not the same, 1-ton use a 1-3/8" bore (casting number 5450072) and the 1-1/2 & 2 ton use 1-1/2" bore (casting number 5300892).

If these are not available you can have your existing cylinders sleeved and new kits installed.

Hello Mike and 3B, Thanks for the rear brake cylinder part and casting numbers. That specific information will be a good help as I hunt down new replacement cylinders.
