Purchased a under bed spare tire carrier. This is the spare tire carrier that has the two frame bars and a cross bar that holds the spare. What SIZE and LENGTH are the bolts that attach the cross bar to the frame supports?

The only one I know about Tim must be the other one. It has a sliding track on one end, J-hook on the other with the other cross piece clamping down on the tire using the 7/16 lug bolts. Sorry.

I just finished installing my spare tire holder this week. My cross bars had been welded in by someone - not sure whether it was the PO or the dealer at the time. The whole thing is not that heavy so I would use the bolt hole size as a guide.
Sorry, that's all I've got.

The bolt sizes I am looking for are in the 1947-1954 factory assembly manual by part number Section 10 Sheet 2.00. Part# 3697356 and Part# 3696301. Just need the size, thread pitch and length on these bolts, or does anyone remanufacture? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tim

Here's my measurements of a 55.2 spare tire carrier's mounting bolts.
9/16"-18 - 8.25" long
1/2"-13- 6.75" long (or so) with a lug nut.

Pictures of the carrier. I know this is not your specified year range, but if you hold/clamp your tire carrier up & run a dowel through the holes, you should be able to get a measurement for what you need.

Brad,

That is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Good idea about wooden dowels to get the length measurement.
I really appreciate your help!

I find McMaster-Carr to have just about everything we need in the way of Fasteners. The confusion for me Tim was your truck is a 1949 which is not completely covered in the Factory Assembly Manual and has a different Spare Tire Carrier than the one you are using. Since you are adapting the newer style carrier, I don't know the fastener info. Please keep us posted on how you did that, and pics would be really nice because as these parts get more rare, others may very well want to take that route too!

Deve,

I have stripped all the parts and repainted them with self etching primer, Duplicolor truck bed coating and finished with Rustoleum satin black. Letting the paint cure. Once I have it installed I will take photos. Still trying to find a spare tire to match the tires I have on the truck. Oh, found out my truck is actually a very late '49 with help from Jim Carter and Mike with Bowtie Bits. Some of parts on my truck were actually used on the '50.
