Hi I just purchased a 1954 - 3800 and the front two tires are shot. I was wondering the best place to get replacements or equivalents? They read 7.00-17 (one is 8 ply and the other is 6 ply) in size. Thanks!

I believe the only domestic tire company still in business is Specialty Tires of America. Coker and other vendors market the tires for STA.

17" tires off of a late model 3/4 or 1 ton GM pickup with 16" radial tubes work fine for me.

Crenwlege,
So you put modern radials on your stock 17" rim with a 16" tube, correct?
What size tire did you use?

The tires that were OEM on my 2012 2500HD. I now have a 2015 3500HD Dually flatbed with the same size tires. It has always been common practice to use smaller tube to keep tubes from folding. Back when I still ran trucks with tube required tires, probably half the flats were from folded tubes. I was able to salvage my old flaps. But a flap can be made from an old tube. Just anything to keep the tube from rubbing on the wheel.
