For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 116 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 116 | Hi I just purchased a 1954 - 3800 and the front two tires are shot. I was wondering the best place to get replacements or equivalents? They read 7.00-17 (one is 8 ply and the other is 6 ply) in size. Thanks!

Coker and other vendors market the tires for STA. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,962 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,962 | 17" tires off of a late model 3/4 or 1 ton GM pickup with 16" radial tubes work fine for me. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 2,168 A teacher, but always an apprentice. | | A teacher, but always an apprentice. What size tire did you use? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,962 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,962 | The tires that were OEM on my 2012 2500HD. I now have a 2015 3500HD Dually flatbed with the same size tires. It has always been common practice to use smaller tube to keep tubes from folding. Back when I still ran trucks with tube required tires, probably half the flats were from folded tubes. I was able to salvage my old flaps. But a flap can be made from an old tube. Just anything to keep the tube from rubbing on the wheel. | | |
