I just hope the Chevy is faster. | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 28,674 | Yes, there's a big difference. The Plymouth uses the Lockheed style brake, which is a far superior design to the Chevy Huck brake.

Back in the day, when labor was dirt cheap, they ground the new shoes until they matched the drums. You can accomplish the same thing by driving the truck and let the drums do the work for you. Just leave extra space between you the guy in front of you until they get right. After that you should be able to stop on a dime. (Your dimes may vary.) Carl

That asbestos dust was just about impossible to contain. Jerry

It actually takes less muscle to stop the car than it does my 1 Ton. I guess the 1000 lb difference in weight has an affect. | | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 | Nice 38 truckermix where did you get the shoes? I took the 41 out again and I'm still not stopping as good as I think it should.

They are the same shoes that were used on the pickups and they are new, if you can imagine that! I never thought I would be buying brand new Huck brake shoes. | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | Some of the linings we get now are very hard. Since they took out the asbestos & don't really care about drum brakes anymore, you don't know what you are getting. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though.
