If your ready for a new wiring harness,"Google" Rhode Island Wiring. "They' state that wires are color-coded,cut,and soldered to spec's,both cloth and plastic.depending on original application.

They make excellent harnesses.

The cloth harnesses are higher-priced than the later plastic harnesses.

I have found that the lower-priced plastic harnesses from Classic Parts (truck parts) are high quality and match the original harness quite nicely.

Classic Parts has several harnesses. The only one designated for stock replacement is # 52-024. (51 GMC, 12 volt, Alternator)

Tim, is this the harness you are referring to?

A little bit of confusing description by Classic Parts.

"Replaces original perfectly", but not perfectly original appearance. I think that GMC went to plastic/taped harnesses in 1954. Earlier GMC harnesses were most likely cloth covered (as were Chevrolet's).

I do not see Classic Parts (or Jim Carter) listing cloth braided covered harnesses (they both use to lust them - probably too expensive to keep in stock?).
