my buddy has offered to tow it home for me, but his truck/trailer is only good for about 6,000.
thoughts? thanks. | | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,436 Moderator | Moderator Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,436 | Goldie I'll be hauling a 54 2-Ton weighing in at 8'000 pounds, from KC to Longmont Colorado, after the Stovebolt Reunion. https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/forums/56/1/STOVEBOLT_REUNION_-_KANSAS_CIT.htmlWe may be able to work something out, depending on where it's at and where it needs to go. Also, if it runs is a bonus to load it. This is the wifes vacation and she wants to go to Utah and trail ride. There is a lot of "if's" in this thought, so we'll see what happens. Add a flatbed-2,000 pounds or better, depending on sides, and headache rack. Hoist? add another 1,000-1,500 pounds, depending on the size of the ram(s),pump, reservoir tank,P.T.O.,hoist mechanism. Hope this helps. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | still looking to get my first "project" truck... think i found one -- based on the VIN, it is a 6100 series. the owner says the truck weighs 8,400 pounds -- that seems high, since the specs i've found online seem closer to 5,500.

thoughts? thanks. What year? What wheel base? What bed, if any? By 'trail ride', do you mean on mountain bikes? If so, this could work out very well for all of us... | | | | Joined: May 2015 Posts: 10 New Guy | New Guy Joined: May 2015 Posts: 10 | yep, that is the spec i was using... super helpful. i don't know too much yet -- wish the VIN was more specific. it is a '52, and sounds like it might have the PTO/tilt, so i guess that could account for the weight like wetwilly points out. btw, is a 'platform/flatbed' just a 'grain bed' w/o the side rails? going to see it in person tomorrow, so i'll know a bit more (will take measurements and photos).

Easy trails and a cooler in the back. I did do Black Bear pass years ago, when it was a two lane road. Then there were the dirt riding days, no peddles, just a kick starter and a twist of the wrist.
Time frame now, is to leave KC in the afternoon after the Reunion on 9-13-15. Ed's truck loaded on the trailer Stay in Topeka Sunday night and then get a early start Monday to cross Kansas. This schedule is very fluid and very seldom works out. My phone number will follow latter.

Well the truck I'm looking at is in Breckenridge -- which definitely has it's share of beautiful backroads, especially that time of year as the aspen leaves start to change. Just need a lift down the highway about 75 miles. I should know tomorrow if this deal is gonna happen or not. I'm not in a big hurry, so your timing could be perfect if it all works out. Quick question (since I'm new here): is this "reunion" every year about this same time? Same location? Might give me incentive to get the truck ready (at least phase 1) for next year's celebration! | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 2,946 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 2,946 | btw, is a 'platform/flatbed' just a 'grain bed' w/o the side rails? More than likely. Often they would have a hoist under them, but not always. They could be fastened directly to the frame, usually with long u-bolts. | | | | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,436 Moderator | Moderator Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 3,436 | Goldie There is a chance that could work out with a lot of "If's". Let us know if you get it, then we'll go to PM's to see if we can work out the details.
The Reunion happens every year, the weekend after Labor Day at the Midwest All Truck Nationals. They usually draw in 200+ trucks of every kind each year. They also treat the stovebolt people with high regard and give us a prime spot to set up the Stovebolt HQ's. You don't have to bring a truck, just be there and it's not all about trucks. We get to know each other and make friends from all over the US and other country's. Heck, I'll be driving a Ford again. Hope you get the truck and keep the reunion in mind for next year.

By that I mean some sort of bed and way to use it.
My 6400 was hauled over here by a really ambitious guy I found on Craigslist, who winched it up onto a 14 ft car hauler and drug it 45 or 50 miles with a half-ton pickup. Couldn't get over 30 mph without it starting to try to pass him. Kinda made for some hairy moments on the 75mph highway!
I know it was at least 7500 lb the way it had that trailer squatted down. Trailer has same suspension as mine and mine looks like that with a 65 hp Deere with a 6 ft mower, and that weighs about 7250.
