| | | | Joined: Jun 2015 Posts: 59 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2015 Posts: 59 | I am rebuilding a 261 ,installing crank and the the number 2 main cap cracked,any body know where there is a cracked or NF block that I could get a cap.All the parts were magnufluxed and were found ok,this was a surprise,I've got about 2 grand into this and it will be hard to back out now.

Reason is that caps and blocks are lined bored and are a matched unit,therefore caps are not easily interchangeable. You would be wise to talk to a engine machine shop to know your options. They may be able to fit and linebore another cap or suggest you get another block. I should have a replacement cap, but as others have said any cap that didn't come from that block originally will have to be line bored when installed to be in proper alignment. Unfortunately the 216, 235 and 261 engines have a different size of bore for every main and cam bearing, this means every bearing bore requires a change in setup for the machinist making this job much more labor intensive than most engine line boring jobs.
