Any recommendations for the transmission fluid in my 1937 truck transmission. It's a three speed.

In my 1940 shop Manual, it calls for S.A.E. 90, S.A.E. 80 for (extreme) lower winter temps........just a thought. I go with the 90 myself.

Here's a GL 4 Gear Oil that is safe for older transmissions
with BRONZE or BRASS internal parts.

Be careful using a GL 5 Gear Oil , they can contain corrosive
additives that can be harmful to BRONZE & BRASS internal parts.

I use straight 90 weight mineral based gear oil that I got from NAPA. The brand is Superior Gear Lube, but any brand will work. I would stick with what the shop manual designates.

Does anyone know why there a difference between the transmission gear oil specifications for 1937 and 1940?

1937
1940

Did the transmission change substantially, or did the quality of gear oil change, or did GM just decide that one grade for all temperatures was OK?
