I just got my carb back from a rebuild and they sent back three new gaskets. Two thin ones and one black one just shy of 1/8". All have smooth inner circumferences but the one I got from JC has four "notches" evenly spaced on the inside. It is thicker like the black one. Do the notches have anything to do with vacuum and which one should I use? Thanks in advance. Steve

I have never worked with a Carter YF; however, the carburetor gasket with the notches are necessary for a vacuum port on the bottom of Rochester carburetors.

Sounds like your referring to the base gasket?

Look at the base of your carb

Gus, it is a 964S Carter Yes, the base gasket.

Tim, that is the same kind of gasket I got from JC.

Gus, I looked at the bottom of my old roch. and the Carter and they both have a small hole which must be the port you refer to. The gasket that Tim shows which is the same as I bought from JC allows that hole to remain uncovered. So that must be the correct one. Am I right? Steve

The correct mounting gasket for a Carter 964s is Carter 1A-41.

Here are Carter gaskets from Carbking's website (I think).

See if the gasket you have fits the base of your carburetor. If it does, and a slot lines up with the hole/holes in the base of the carburetor, use the gasket you have.

It is correct for you to be careful - do not let any of these posts scare you.
