Anyone had any experience with a "friction system" for taking out dents?
Not the "paintless dent removal" where they take care of dings, but a 7"-9" set of discs that go on a regular grinder. Photos showed some fairly large hammer dent in a fender... The dent is gone over with the discs and then water is poured on the area. Then you repeat the process until the dent is gone. It's supposed to be a way to get away from Bondo. I haven't found much info on it and was wondering if anyone has tried it.
Thanks

Try the sunchaser tools website, www.sunchasertools.com
There was also a metalshapers website about another guy who made a tool similar to this.I don't remember the addy but I think it was metalshapers. He also made one out of a stainless steel pan lid.
I haven't used one but have read many reviews about them and everyone seems to like them. Perhaps Metalman or Martinsr has used them.

I have seen work done with the Sunchaser system and it is as good as it is advertised to be. Too bad that prices are not listed on the website.

I will be buying this tool before I start my next restoration project The tool is for dent repair but most likely would only be of limited use in metal fabrication (making curved parts from flat panels).

Here is a link to Q/A on the website of one of the contributors to the Metalshapers website. A reference to the Sunchaser Friction Disc is about 4 questions down the page).

The link to the Metalshapers website is (referred to by brjr51 ?): http://www.metalshapers.org/

The friction disc generates heat and is used to 'shrink' loose spots. I think this tool is more for advanced metal workers. The disc gives you better shrinkage over a larger area than a torch or small mig welds used as shrinks. The hobbyist would be better spending the money on good hammers and dollys.

you could also heat up the dent area with a heat gun or a heat lamp than quikly put dry ice of just ice on it it takes a few times but it has worked for me many times.

I have the "system", it really has notthing to do with "elemiating work", it is just different work. In fact, the grinder you use is a large, heavy 15 am grinder with a controled start that will build up your biceps I'll tell you that! It is HARD WORK, but it does everything they say it will.
