The 12V has a smaller-diameter armature shaft that the 6V, but I don't have a measurement handy for either one. Both starters have the same number of gear teeth, but the tooth pitch is different, IMHO. Jerry

You can drop the access pan underneath to verify. The starters are not interchangeable so its a very good idea to know for sure which one you have.

It is not so easy checking for a 6v vs 12 drive gear on the starter. The number of teeth are the same on 6v and 12v starters. Last summer, I caught a rebuilder (who knew better) using a 12v drive gear on a 6v starter rebuild. | | |
