I am having a small issue understanding the throttle cable. looks like picture 1 and 2 Pict1 Pict2 The issue with attaching it to the bottom of the bar in pict1 is it would then pull the wrong way. Does someone have an image they could post showing where the throttle cable attaches? | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,988 Sir Searchalot | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,988 | Hard to see what you have but "the bar" is a bell crank. Gas pedal rod linkage pushes bottom of bar (bell crank) forward which pulls top of bell crank back and carb linkage back for acceleration. Throttle shaft rotates CW to accelerate, looking at driver side of carb. Even with those terrible pics I see an extra piece. Is that an automatic in that truck? Looks like a kick down bracket or cable bracket? If you have a stick shift, don't need that. You say "cable" and I see rod linkage. Explain what you want to do. If you are using a cable on the pedal, it will pull not push like a rod so........ you bypass the bell crank, install a cable shield keeper and pull on the carb shaft at about the same place as rod would pull. They sell brackets for that. A 58 was not cable on pedal. At one time the throttle cable was hooked up on this truck. The throttle cable I am referring to is the one on the dash. All the information I have for a 58, owners manual, assembly manual, show a throttle cable from the dash, to me they are not real clear where the cable attaches. I was hoping someone had a picture for 58 with the dash cable attached. | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,988 Sir Searchalot | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,988 | The hook up for hand throttle is in ASSYMAN sec 6 Sheet 23.00 and 24.00. You may never use it, you can install on dash for looks as some do. You will use the hand choke unless you have a carb with manual or pull off or electric choke already on it. | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 283 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 283 | Sheet 23 & 24 are for the cylinder. | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,988 Sir Searchalot | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,988 | What cylinder? Factory Assembly Manual, Chevrolet Truck 1955-1959, section 6, sheet 23 and 24. I am looking right at it. Choke and throttle control. Sheet 24 says it's for model 5000, seems like a V8 and looks like cable may go thru a "paddle" that I see in your pic 2. Sheet 23 seems to show a 6 cyl version. Cable goes thru firewall to paddle, sheath is clamped at firewall just above paddle. Wire goes thru paddle slotted hole and a barrel clamp is attached to wire. Pull on throttle on dash and paddle goes up? and operates bell crank? or over rides bell crank? or is on a separate pivot? Not sure. You tell me. The other way, sh 23, is if the carb is set up for a hand throttle. Common on Rochester B carbs and etc. Can't see your carb. Holes for the sheath clip may possibly be seen in Sec 1 sheet 39.00. Let me know if the paddle works like I think. I know you are waiting for someone to post pics. My info is in case they don't and you don't have a FAM. If no one posts a pic or you don't find a pic, I will post more in detail.

It's just that I saw a "paddle"/lever that looks like what he has, on that sheet, and the 3100 sheet seems to show 6 cylinder carb set up. It's all I could find. Thought maybe they used the same setup on 5000 V8's as other V8 models. I may be missing the page that shows 3100 V8. I don't have a clue what set up he has and thought maybe that pic would jiggle up some thoughts. Waiting for more pics or someone who really knows what he has. I have seen all types of mis match parts from previous owners used on trucks. I think I have explained about every scenario I can figure out to help from my house. Sounds like if you know they are a "totally different carb linkage set up", you would know what the other looks like, right? So let us/him know. Without any acknowledgement or feedback from an OP, it's hard to try and help until the posse arrives. Could not understand his last post, maybe he left off the word "six". The 5000 came with a V8. (Sh 24) As I said I wouldn't bother trying to hook up a hand throttle. If your choke works, you don't need it. The 3100 283 was RPO, the 5000 was std. Don't know if all RPO's for every year are shown in FAM. Taskmaster 283...2 bbl Rochester.
