| | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 52 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 52 | I had a body shop guy tell me that replacing the rubber on my 1966 C-10 windshield is easy, put the rubber around the glass, put a small rope around the outer edge of the seal & pull it through to the inside of the cab......is it as easy as it sounds or should I let a glass-man do it??

I was able to do the split windshield on my '50 by myself. The difficult part is getting around the corners without ripping the rubber seal with the rope. Do it on a warm day in the sun and it will be easier. A tool like a plastic knife or spatula is useful for persuading the seal when the rope isn't doing a good job. It helps to apply a bit of wax to the pinch weld when the glass is out, too.
However, it is difficult to remove the old rubber without cracking the glass. The best way is to drill a hole through the rubber and thread a wire or guitar string through it and use it to saw out the rubber around the glass.
