old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 93 Member | | Member Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 93 | Hi all, I'm new here and this is my first post. I recently bought a 38 pickup which has been totally disassembled for painting. I now need to put it back together and will need many new parts. Do any of you have experience on which suppliers provide the best fit and quality on a new grille (probably chrome), and bed wood kit. There are many small parts I will need but these are 2 of the most expensive items. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this, regards, Don | | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 288 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 288 | I suggest checking out the Links portion of the Stovebolt. They wouldn't be there if they were reputable.
I personally have used Chevy Duty quite regularly.

You might check with Bowtie-Bits. As for the bed wood if you are handy with wood you can make your own or check with Mar-K they have some quality stuff. I just had a problem with Classic Chevrolet Parts in Oklahoma City, I guarantee I will never use them again! | | | | | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 93 Member | | Member Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 93 | Brian, I agree that some vendors are just better than others. Quality, helpfullness, return policy, etc. play a big part in dealing with them. The reason I asked about the grille is that I have read too many posts on poor fitting repro stuff. If I have to pay big bucks for something like that it better darn well fit right.
Thanks all for comments. Don | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 40 Member | | Member Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 40 | Well, I just put a reproduction grille in our 1950 3100. What a pain in the butt! I usually buy most parts from Chevy Duty and I have been very pleased with their quality and service. But i saw this new grille on ebay just before last christmas and I couldn't resist. saved about $100 and it looks great. The only trouble is it is about 1/2" wider than the original. Since I am just putting the truck back together, i had left all the bolts loose and I still had to shoehorn it in. It was a royal pain trying to get in in and lining up the bolt holes. Took days and I scratched my new paint, too. So I would suggest that you buy the expensive parts from a reputable dealer and pay the extra price. I have bought many older parts on ebay without a problem, but I don't think I will buy any new high dollar repro parts there anymore. And I would strongly suggest that you put the parking lights in the grille BEFORE you put the grille in. I had to take it out and start over... unbroke.
Can U believe it? My wife says: "I want an old pickup truck" so I HAD to buy it!! '50 Chevy 3100 5 window.
