Part of it was a new temp sender on the engine. Now, the temp gauge pegs past H after the warm up. Is there a way to recalibrate the gauge to dial back the needle into the more normal operating range? (the engine is not overheating, just the gauge reading high.)

The sender is a variable resister to ground. I use pipe dope called T+2. | | | | Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 219 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2013 Posts: 219 | X2 on the grounding, I just had the same issue with one of mine pegging. My issue was lack of ground on the gauge cluster housing but acted the same way. Once I got it grounded properly the gauge worked fine. | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,501 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,501 | Is teflon tape THAT good of an insulafor on pipe threads?

I ran across this a while back and had to change out the sender. http://www.lectriclimited.com/mainpage.htm | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 | You must have a mismatch between the sender and the gauge. Rock Auto has senders for all 59 GMC engines for around five bucks. For that price I would get one I KNEW was for a 59 GMC.
