| | Forums66 Topics126,776 Posts1,039,271 Members48,100 | Most Online2,175 Jul 21st, 2025 | | | Joined: Dec 2014 Posts: 32 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2014 Posts: 32 | ok, so my 53 3100 has a 70's 7.5 gm 10 bolt in the rear and the previous owner (my late uncle) installed the 10 bolt and cut the 70's drum parking brake cables about 3' from the axle and just left them hanging. my question is I want to install a parking brake system and need to know what is my best option??? the original foot emergency brake is still in the cab. do I go full on replacement with some after market kit or try to hook up the 10 bolt system to the 53 system?
please give me some much needed advice, I am at a loss.

I have the same setup as you have, as do others I have seen. The best that I can offer is to get a new '70s parking brake and MacGyver it to your '53 parking brake crossbar. I could tell you how I did mine, but I am not proud enough of it to recommend it to anyone. Carl

| | | | Joined: Sep 2014 Posts: 385 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2014 Posts: 385 | I have the lokar floor mount setup. Made a custom mount for it and used the lokar custom e brake cables. I did not want the original left foot e brake anymore.
You can easily keep your current left foot system and just get new cables that will work with your current rear end and chassis brake bar. | | |
