The AD steering mast is significantly smaller in diameter than later models. I'm sure I could build up a spacer under it to make it fit. I am considering making individual letters (PRNDLL) of the same script style as what is above the speaker grill and attach them to a curved plate that matches the curve of the mast and make some kind of cool pointer to come off of the steering arm knuckle.
I will then patent it, make a million dollars and pay cash for a ranch in Arizona I heard about.

That's roughly what I did Carl,I had some 10mm thick Lexan left over from a job.
I cut an arc that matched the main body of the column and fashioned a pointer that attatched to the steering wheel shroud. (sorry no pics)
Admittedly it's a later column but could easily be adapted to an early
skinnier set-up.
Both were attached by 3M double sided tape.
As yet i've not fitted any numbers or letters but I currently get by by counting the clicks down from Park.
I was going to use self adhesive (Letraset) letters and numbers once I find the correct font.
It's just one of those little jobs I haven't got round to.
P.S. I'll go 50/50 on the Patent with you as I claim to have done it first....
