Sold "The Ole Orange Crate" to a fella from New Zealand. Loaded it onto a semi this morning, headed for Long Beach California, then onto a ship for the long journey to the land of the Kiwi bird.

Have fun my friend, you are in for quite the adventure!

Saying your goodbye's to an old friend is never easy...

One for the road...

Not a very glamorous hauler... plane white wrapper.

One last look...

Looks official then. I hope you got a nice price so it won't be too long until you get another truck or project. I've seen your build thread on that truck and have it saved so I can refer to it for possible ideas and DIY instructions. Good job.

I have done several pre-purchase inspections for a man in Australia who buys and sells hotrods, classics, and muscle cars. He buys some, and rejects others, based on the information I can provide from an on-scene inspection and a test drive. One he did buy about a year ago was an unrestored 1963 Lincoln Continental 4-door convertible in extremely good condition with only 47K original miles. It was a virtual clone of the car JFK was riding in Dallas.

I sold a 65 deuce & 1/4 to a fellow in Germany. They sent an inspection co. out to check it out. He didn't know anything about old cars. He didn't even look for things you would check out in a collector car. It was a great car though & I still keep in touch with the guy. He is having a ball with it. Seems the forieners like the big old American cars.

John,

I'll note it on your Gallery page when I'm working in there tomorrow. Would be great if we hear from the new owner so we can attach his name to the truck, to continue its history.

Congrats.

I have no idea. I asked the trucker if he needed help, he said no that he would handle it.

Wow, I'm shocked. Went through your build thread on another forum and you sure put a lot into that truck. I looked great and I hope you got a good price for her. You gave us all a lot of great ideas and inspiration on that build. Thanks for sharing.

If I would of loaded it up, I guess I would be heading to New Zealand too. How in the hell did you get out of the truck?

I had pretty much done everything I had intended to do to the truck. The Ole Orange Crate is destined to have a great life, in part due to my time with it... and for that I am truly gratefull.

John, you have helped me with insights and advice over the years. Most recently you sent me some photos of this truck when I posted about mounting my spare on the side of my truck. It was very helpful. You are very kind in sharing your knowledge and experience with us. Best wishes.

Thanks Rob.

As Hillary once said "It's takes a community to build a Stovebolt" thumbs_up

Latest word on the New Zealand adventure is the international shipping container that they placed The Orange Crate into has been seized for inspection by US Customs Agents.

Lets hope they don't turn it into a full size "re-assemble it yourself kit" for it's new owner.

I shipped a 2003 Sierra Z71 over there a few years back. My wife is from there and we used to go several times a year, but now just once a year. 30 hours one way travel in airports is getting rough! I didn't need it (the truck) and her Dad had a big farm, it cost me about 7500 US to get it there. He has died now and I am trying to sell it which is another whole story. You don't need to care about this but the purchaser will. It may be different for older trucks (utes as they call pickups) but there is a copious inspection upon arrival for them to what they call VTNZ it. They affix a sticker to the windshield and in order to operate it you better have one or the penalties are severe. My truck took about 90 days to go through the process if I remember correctly. I hope you got a good price for it as it was beautiful and you put a lot of hard work into it. He paid you 1.35 New Zealand for every US dollar he paid. That being said a home in Auckland increases 800 dollars per day in value. It is crazy land there now in the way of economy. a 1300 sq. foot home is approaching a half a million dollars in Auckland.

What's the draw, have you ever been to Auckland?
