Hello team,
I’m glad I found this forum. Let me get straight to business. About a year ago I purchased a 1946 GMC 1.5 Ton dump bed truck. The dump bed was removed by the previous owner (which I would done anyway). It came with a tag line “running when parked etc”. I see the engine and all other parts are intact but I would need the following:
#1 Brake master cylinder
#2 All new u joints
#3 What is involved in converting the whole system to 12V?
Where do I get these parts new? Is there a site or dealer you go to? I’m in NorCal. Please help...

Check with local auto parts for brake components and U joints. They should be able to order them.

Check the Tech Tips of this site for 12 V conversion tips and dozens of other helpful articles.

I moved your post so the guys with the big trucks will see it. Welcome to Stovebolt.

Hey vijay. Lots of possibilities for parts with the web. And some as previously posted at local parts houses. I've picked up quite a few things for my 42 ton and a half (Chevy) at Jim Carter Truck Parts http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/. They have some GMC stuff too, I think.

Got any pics of the beast ?

You will be amazed at what you can still get from NAPA.
I have a 45 GMC 2.5 ton with some similarities as yours.
So far everything Ive done mechanically ive found from Napa. They probably wont be able to look anything up by application, but as long as you have a part number, weather it be a GM number or other manufacturer, they can usually find it.
The parts that you are looking for fit a variety of different trucks right up through the 70's & 80's.

Check for any numbers on your master cylinder. I was able to come up with a master cylinder by the numbers on mine. mine had a Wagner lockheed number on it, and is still available.

With a little digging, I was able to find all the wheel cylinders. the brake hoses, the master cylinder,& all the bearings in the 2 spd rear end.

If you need a hand with part numbers, I have a couple of old GM parts catalogs that cover our trucks.

I'm restoring a 1946 GMC 1.5 ton myself. About half way through it and having a great time with it all. You can give ma call at (920) if you have any specific questions. OldGMC trucks is a good site for info on this truck too.

Thanks Guys! Sorry about the delay,I started a new job and it keeps me busy. I now have one hour a day going forward (usually after dinner) to tinker with the GMC. I'm reading up as much as I can and I will post on the progress.

Needless to say, more questions to follow.

Hello Jeff, the previous owner removed the master cylinder and never gave it to me, no luck there.

Anyone have any experience with putting a 1946 1.5 ton cab on a modern dodge chassis with a cummins or hemi engine, and if so how about putting something like 20 in wheels and tires on it

Do you still have those numbers? I have a 1946 3 ton that needs a complete brake job. And new bearings in the rear end couldn't hurt
