1953 Chevy pickup 4 on the floor....after 15 minutes of driving the seems to be a grinding/ chattering type of noise coming from the trans... Didn't do this when I put it up last November... Any ideas what it could be....

low tranny oil from a small leak, or possibly worn out tranny oil?

Excellent I'll give that a try... Could you describe how I check the level or even drain and add new oil? What type of oil do I use....

assuming it is an original transmission, it is fairly simple, I don't exactly know what the level should be in the tranny, but I THINK its about half up the gears inside the tranny. but to drain ther is a plug in the bottom of the tranny (towards the back)
just unscrew it and have a pan ready. To fill I just pull the floormat up, remove the transmission cover and unbolt the top of the tranny (MAKE SURE IT IS IN NEUTRAL) and pour in fresh fluid, or go through the tiny and short little tube in the side of it, which will take all day to fill.

Like Mat says, drain it through the plug on the bottom of the trans. There is a similar plug on the side. Fill it through this opening to about 1/2 in below the level of the plug. Use gear grease like 85/140 weight. If you use GL-5 you can use the same in the rear end.
The first thing a guy should do when he gets one of these old trucks is to change all the fluids.

Just like wrenchbender says, check and change those fluids. It's funny that some folks who do regular oil changes never think about trans or rear changes. You'll be surprised at the drive-ability improvement if it's been neglected and you change it out.
