For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 154 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 154 | This was my father-in-laws and he gave it to use last year, before he passed. I never got the full story on this front end, but I know he re-built the truck in the 1980's. Does anyone have info on this or a back story to it? I've seen other trucks with it, so I know I don't have have the only one. https://flic.kr/p/aUmwKB

GMTK, what was your confusion about? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 154 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 154 | I've never been able to find the front end online (got some rust and dents on this one) and I was just curious about it. At point, someone told me the front end was from an pontiac, but actually fit the GM trucks; but again, I could never verify that. I've found a bunch of photos with other old '55 trucks with it, so I know this wasn't a one of a kind.
It's more that I just want to know the entire history of the truck, I love learning about it and want to pass the info on to my kids since the truck was their grandpas.

I know for my '46, finding GMC specific parts is not easy.
Whoever told you it was a Pontiac piece were probably only basing it on them looking similar. As far as I know there is no interchange on body parts from Pontiac to GMC. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 57 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 57 | in 1941 the park light housing on the headlight bucket was from a 40 pontiac car.. maybe that is what he was referring too | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,832 | The engine is a SBC instead of a Pontiac and the upholstery is not factory but the basic truck is unmolested and pretty darn good.
