I have the HEI thing using the stock distributor almost complete, but if we can add fuel injection thats reliable, WOW! Keep us posted! Perfect place for this kind of information for sure! | | | | | Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 255 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2013 Posts: 255 | Take a look here. I've gotten a lot of info and help from Bill here. Would highly recommend him to anyone. His chip tune to get my GMC 450 with 270 and TBI running was spot on. Like Dicemans setup also. Lots of ingenious ideas here. Plus I bought a new toy and I couldn't resist working on it some. It isn't a stovebolt but it is from the same era. I have always wanted a movie car and I finally found one I could afford. It is the Army staff car from the last Indiana Jones movie "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" It has been sitting for a long time and required a complete rebuild of the cooling system, fuel system, and brakes. I am almost done with it so I can get back on my truck soon. http://i532.photobucket.com/albums/...car/volo_cars_indiana_jones_2011_311.jpg | | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 93 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 93 | I finally got started on the assembly of my 261. Didn't get very far though. When it came time to install the cam we discovered that it was ground for mechanical lifters instead of hydraulic. Here is a slideshow of the machine work and parts. http://s532.photobucket.com/user/diceman50/slideshow/261%20engine

As I was getting ready to update this one I couldn't believe I haven't done so for three months. So in an effort to do a better job I have decided to concentrate my efforts on only one. It seems that most of my recent activity has been on 67-72chevytrucks.com. There is no particular reason except I find it easier to post pictures there (for me anyway) and my good friend and neighbor Z10 has been posting his project there also. Which I have done a lot of work on. So, if any one is interested you can find updates at the following link. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=653268 There is quite a bit more recent content there already. I am not mad at anyone. Just trying to make better use of my time. Also, I am not leaving. I will still be keeping up with what's going on here. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 93 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 93 | Update on the 261 engine swap and McCulloch supercharger on my 1958 Apache, I am happy to report that everything is up and running and I am very happy with the results. Before I pulled the old engine out I did some performance runs with my G Tech meter so I could measure the difference. The old engine was painfully slow and averaged 21.88 seconds from 0 to 60 MPH. Of course the truck is heavy at 4160 lbs. and has the aerodynamics of brick. When I made the same runs with the new engine and supercharger I thought my G Tech was broken. I made about 6 runs to make sure it was right. The modifications knocked 10 seconds off my previous times for an average of 10.83 seconds. Not fast by any measure, but at least I can get out on the Interstate without being in the way. http://s532.photobucket.com/user/di...charger%20mount/20151118_172141.jpg.htmlhttp://s532.photobucket.com/user/diceman50/media/Supercharger/Hank%20Plenum/20160204_195011.jpg.html | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,001 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,001 | That's better that 50% improvement! Big difference, and I bet you surprise drivers on the road!

You remind me of me. Going to any length to see the project through to the end. While others may think that spending years to end up with 124 horsepower is a waste, this is exactly the thing that sets you apart. The attention to detail, setting goals that are pretty much unachievable by most and seeing it through to the end.. that's what it's all about! I only wish I had the skills you do. To get that setup running perfectly is nothing short of amazing. Great job!
But what REALLY impresses me is how you share your project with others. That is pure inspiration for all ages and I think it will help the younger crowd get enthused about automotive restoration. I STILL think there should be a path to direct injection. Seems to me a stock head with holes drilled in each cylinder near the spark plug hole would provide for a pretty cool project. Having done no research yet, it seems like something that would not be impossible. Keep up the great work Ron, that writeup on the other forum is very impressive. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 506 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 506 | Dice;
I know you used the online calculators to figure out the HP for the engine. Is there anyway to figure the torque without putting it on a dyno? Can you get a torque measurement from a chassis dyno? I'm dying to know how much grunt that motor has.
Thanks
Larry
