I must comment that UPS's "brokerage fees" are just a total rip. They will charge $39 "brokerage fees" on a $12 item. They are still operating like in the days when there was duty on everything. The best bet is to use the US Post when possible, but many vendors won't do that.

The GST and PST is our punishment from our government for being Canadian and buying out of the country!

Whew, now I feel better!

There are a handful of old truck canadian parts sources... there may be more, but these are the ones I have found out about:

http://www.midcanadaclassic.mb.ca/

http://www.scottssupertrucks.com/

http://www.ironchief.com/

http://www.antiquechev.com/

These links can also be found at my rinky dinky 'work truck like(read not fancy but gets it done)' hobby site:

Thanks for the links Woogeroo. I had checked a place in Alberta and thought the parts were expensive but I think it would have been a little cheeper without all the shipping charges. And to the parts guy. I live in Vancouver

I'm with you, Most places don't think Alaska is part of the U.S. I shop at places that will ship US post office for the most part and I THANK them very much. The other places with UPS don't even want to talk about options. I once got a $12 T-shirt and a free catalog for $36.88 (it did show up in 2 days though) Never again form those guys!

I buy a lot of my parts from Bill's Truck shop in Courtice Ont. He has always been very good to deal with in my experience. He has a web site but the best bet is to call him on the phone. I was in there the other day and after I got my parts, I spent some time admiring all the "new" iron imported from California. the phone number is 905 725 3460.

I have been to the Antique Chev Parts guy and he runs a pathetic disorganized mess! I would recommend avoiding him.

Oh, Bill's Truck Shop is a Jim Carter agent. Anything that Jim Carter has, you can get from him.

The TV station I work at did a story on this last week, UPS doesn't even warn people about this. Two options around this, ship USPS. Or have your parts shipped UPS air, not ground. Apperantly these packages are not charged the fee.

If I would have known that shipping was going to be so much I would have had it sent to a friends house in Point Roberts Wash. The ironic thing about it is that ups would have to drive through Canada to get there but I would have saved a bundle. The next truck I buy parts for I will defanetly do more researh

I have nothing but praise for Scott's Super Truck parts in Penhold Alberta. When I decided to go all out and tear my truck apart I put together a parts list of about $5000 worth of parts and I sent the list to Scott's, Ironchief, Some dealer in BC that deals mainly in 5-6-7 car stuff, Jim Carter's, and one other south of the border.

Scott was cheapest and the service I recieved was great. I of course did not think of everything I might need and I ended up buying more stuff and he discounted that too! I had a few minor problems with a couple of items (the wiring harness did not have numbers on the wires!), but it was never a problem to send parts back and he always solved my problems.

I believe if you look at UPS's web page you will see that if the item is shipped via the right method brokerage fees are included, but still expensive.

Buddy in AK, I was in Fairbanks at the end of April, just at the airport, but still an interesting part of the world. I was flying from Old Crow Yukon to Whitehorse and the plane stops in Fairbanks.
