Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 2,168 | I've been trying to locate a T5 for my project around home and people want an extraordinary amount of money for one! Budget, budget, so I'm considering a 700r4 with an adaptor plate. This would be cheaper than the price of T5's in my area.
Questions:
1. Will this require modifying the floor to fit when mated to a 261?
2. 261, 700r4, 3.90 gears, 28/29' tire. Too low an rpm? What's a 261 sweet spot for rpm?

There have been a few for sale here, as well as on the HAMB, Craigslist, Ebay etc... I don't know if US junkyards will ship to Canada, but I found mine on car-part.com for $300 + shipping.
I absolutely love my T5 behind a hopped up 235 in a '46 PU!

Yes you will have to make a new floor pan to cover the trans.
I used a Lokar floor shift and that required changes to the floor pan.
Also you will have to cut the firewall opening a little higher. this is the other reason for a new floor pan.
Depending on your load and speed, you have the option of using "D" or "OD" to adjust your torque/RPM range. | | |
