For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 89 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 89 | Hello, I know this type of post has been beat into the ground but for some reason I'm having trouble searching the archives. I need to replace a front rim on my 1960 C-60 so I plan on doing both to a later year non firestone rim. Could anyone give me a quick idea as to what years I can use? I was thinking 1965-69? I don't remember. Thanks for any replies!

Do you have tube type wheels or tubeless wheels? How many studs do your wheels mount on? Or do you have heavy cast wheels? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 89 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 89 | Its the tube type Firestone center split rim. 8.25x20 tire, 5 - 8.50 bolt pattern. The options listed in my parts book are: Budd mounting type (option 172) uses an inner and outer wheel wheel nut system on the rear and is six studs on an 8.75" bolt circle, these are stud piloted wheels. ten stud on an 8.75", bolt circle, hub piloted Motor Wheels (option 128) six stud on 8.75" bolt circle, hub piloted, uses a single wheel nut front and rear. If you have something other than those options listed I would have to do a lot more research.

Some are Firestone R5's, sometimes you get lucky and they are Wheel or Budd's. Sometimes old school wrecking yards use buses for storage, and they could yield your donor rims. Good luck. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 89 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 89 | Ok, my bad here. My rim is a 10 bolt rim. I had a family member measure it while I'm on the road. I don't have the bolt measurement quite yet. They looked at the front and the front hub only uses 5 bolts the rear all ten. Thank goodness for text pictures.

Anyway those wheels were available in tube type and tubeless for a few years, I did check the current Accuride catalog for steel wheels, and they don't seem to have a listing for hub piloted wheels in 20" or 22.5". You may have to search some truck wrecking yards, but I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding what you want/need, hope that helps. | | |
