I am new and I want to get a shop manual for my soon to arrive 53 3800 flatbed.
I found the 1947-51 Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual with '52 supplement on ebay.
It claims to be a 350 page printed manual and they have sold a BUNCH. It's less than $20.00. I know a lot of literature is sold on ebay that is free somewhere else. Is this the case with this manual or should I just order one up?

I'd also recommend getting a Motors Truck Manual that covers your year truck. These were purchased by independent shops and usually covered a 10 year run with all trucks included. The reason is the shop manual tells the dealer mechanic how to do it with GM shop tools. It was written by tech writers. The Motor Manual tells you how to do it with shop tools. It was written by mechanics.

Good point on referring to the Motor Truck Manual. Different perspective, and different pictures than the Factory manual.

My 10th edition covers '49-57 Chevrolets. My 7th edition covers '46-54. So I imagine anything 6th to 14th edition would cover early '50s trucks. | | |
