Hope you all are starting to defrost a bit .
Just got back from a trip with the Big Bolt to I guess about 300 miles for the whole trip (I'm temporarly in Port St Florida at my brothers). Got small job changing out a motor in a 1972 Chevy pickup 6 out 305 V8 in .
The deal was I got to keep the six engine and trans and a few other parts ,plus I got to scrap the other truck we took the motor out of and $200.00 cash .
I used my truck as a boom truck to pull the motors because we were working in sand and grass .
I put my brothers engine hoist up on my flat bed with legs pointing forward with the wheels turned around pointing up and extended the legs to the max , then threw a chain across them hooked to a come-a-long ,then I turned the mast and boom around facing the rear .To support the mast I took my 2nd come-a-long and hooked one hook onto the pivot bolt for the boom then I took 2 ratchet straps and hooked them into the ends of the 2 legs then the other ends hooked into the 2nd hook of the come-a-long This did a great job supporting the mast.
Pulling the motors this way was a piece of cake .I jacked the motor up a bit,put my the truck in 1st gear with the key off hit the foot started with my hand it crept forward a bit went back and jacked it up a bit more till it cleared all, hit the starter until it was out and away from the truck .This set up really made it easy to move the motors around also .
We ran out of time and day light so I towed the pick up with a H F tow bar back to my brothers house in Port St Lucie Fl, My truck didn't even know it was pulling something that heavy behind it .
The bad was I had to sleep in the cab of my truck for 4 nights .side note here if you have to sleep in your AD truck make sure if there is any mosquitos or any other biting bugs around to close both vents or you'll regret that you didn't . .
I'm putting the sleeper on soon !!!!!!!
Check out the pics Paul .
