According to the number on the tag it is for a 1964 230 passenger car. I'm now debating if I should use it. Were the auto choke carbs of that era reliable? The way the throttle and choke move seems funky but I'm sure vacuum has to do with it. I'm thinking after that many years even though it's NOS I'm going to have to rebuild it anyway. Any thoughts on this carb? | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 1,262 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 1,262 | FWIW.... I had a 1970 Nova with a 230 and an auto choke. I liked it a lot better after I put a manual choke on it. | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 124 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 124 | FWIW.... Seems pretty simple just remove the auto choke vacuum parts. Then I suppose you must weld on the manual choke pivot point? | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 1,262 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 1,262 | On my '70 Nova the manual choke was a bolt on affair. I did it myself, and I was 16 or 17 years old at the time. Why take a huge leap backwards in technology? Jerry

Why take a huge leap backwards in technology? Jerry In reality I'm probably going to bolt it on this weekend and see what it does. I'm curious since it is a NOS carb it might just run alright. If not I will do what I need to in order to get it to run right even if I install new gaskets on it and or rebuild it. I really hate to mess with it too much being NOS unless I need to. I will see what it does. I hope I can make it work since I know for a fact it is a 230 carb since it still has the tag and all. Original box too.
