It is spliced into the hot wire going to the gas gauge. No matter how I connect wires the gauge always reads to the full mark when the ignition is turned on. Something is not grounded.
Try running a wire from a clean/good ground to a sender attachment "screw" at the tank (to see if a ground is the problem). I sometimes run a "test" wire from a sender attachment screw all the way back to the ground terminal on your battery (negative terminal for a Chevrolet; positive terminal for a GMC).

I ran a wire from one of the attachment screws directly to the frame. Ground a shiny place on the frame to get good contact. Still, when the key is turned on it registered "FULL". Any more ideas???? I am a simple-minded numbskull when in comes to diagnosing gas gauges.
Run a wire from the sender post on the gas dash-gauge to the sender wire post on sender unit on the gas tank.
If you still read full, my guess would be a bad fuel gauge.
