For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 321 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 321 | Hi Everyone
Not sure but I tried a search and found nothing...so I figured I would ask here. I have a 1953 Chevy truck that I swapped out a 1985 K5 Chevy Blazer rear end that I got for free. I had to replace all the brakes as the Northeast weather sorta rusted everything. I wanna run the stock parking brake as found on the 1953 truck but I also wanna use the e-brake cables from the more modern K5 Blazer rear end...how do you guys hook up the new to old? Currently I have the stock e-brake levers that that came on the 1953 and the stock Chevy Blazer cables...how do you tie the two of them together?
Any insight would be an awesome thing...been scratching my chin on this for a while..

I swapped in a GM corporate rear into my 53 3/4 ton many years ago but I honestly can not remember how I addressed the E B issue ...it seems to me that I hooked at least one of the new rear lines into the mechanical parts that came back from stock using the usual shade tree engineering but I am sure you could address this issue after your rear is in
I know it does not help today but I will try to look this weekend
Dan | | | | | | Neverdone Unregistered | | Neverdone Unregistered | Mike , I checked my truck today and it was just as I suspected , we took the emergency brake lines from the new rear and cut and fitted them with [I need help here someone ] with a universal elongated horseshoe looking thing from Tractor Supply that has a pin through the end with a cotter.... that attached to the original EM brake bar . The horseshoe thing had a alan screw to hold the cut off cable in the other end .
NOTE : If anyone can translate this to English feel free ... I just can not remember the proper name of what I am trying so pitifully to describe Dan | | | | | Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 1,749 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 1,749 |
