A friend of mine has recently aquired a '48 GMC 1/2 ton pick-up.
To be honest my knowledge of these trucks dashboards is somewhat limited.

He is planning some upgrades one of which is to fit an after market speedometer either mechanical or electronic and other gauges as the truck came without any at all.
He'll be going down the V8 route.

Are there any vendors who sell retro-fit 12v gauges with modern internals and don't require adapters?
Thanks in advance.

The gauges in '47-53 New Design trucks are the same diameter as in Advance Design trucks of the same years. There are several aftermarket suppliers.

Just remember, there are two different mounting patterns on
the back of the gauge where it mounts to the dash studs. The
GMC (floor shift) is not a square pattern. Been down this road.
Good luck and measure your mountings before ordering!

I forgot about that. I think it only applies to '47s. The studs were moved when they went to column shift.

Jockbolter , I built a couple of welding tables for these guys in Boyne City Michigan , they have one heck of an operation and will put modern electronics into your gauges if you send them to them . I am not sure about the ''RETRO "" part but you could always re-decal yours before you send them out ...they are not inexpensive though everything is relative . I have seen their factory and their work ..impressive

They can do any gauge type
