For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | A friend of mine has recently aquired a '48 GMC 1/2 ton pick-up. To be honest my knowledge of these trucks dashboards is somewhat limited.
He is planning some upgrades one of which is to fit an after market speedometer either mechanical or electronic and other gauges as the truck came without any at all. He'll be going down the V8 route.
Are there any vendors who sell retro-fit 12v gauges with modern internals and don't require adapters? Thanks in advance. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. There are several aftermarket suppliers. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 93 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2013 Posts: 93 | Just remember, there are two different mounting patterns on the back of the gauge where it mounts to the dash studs. The GMC (floor shift) is not a square pattern. Been down this road. Good luck and measure your mountings before ordering!

The studs were moved when they went to column shift. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | Thank you Gents,I had it in my head they were quite different. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. Jockbolter , I built a couple of welding tables for these guys in Boyne City Michigan , they have one heck of an operation and will put modern electronics into your gauges if you send them to them . I am not sure about the ''RETRO "" part but you could always re-decal yours before you send them out ...they are not inexpensive though everything is relative . I have seen their factory and their work ..impressive They can do any gauge type http://www.classicinstruments.com/Dan | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | He could go high tech with Dakota Digital. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | Thanks again fellas,i've passed this info onto my friend,i'll let him decide. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr.
