I need to replace all 60 of the X mounted extension springs that connect the coil springs together in my 1956 seat bottom. Does anyone have a source for these small springs? What are they called? They don't have hooks on the ends they just attach to the coil spring by corkscrewing around a turn or two.

And how will you replace them Mike? I would think there has to
be a special wrapping tool to install them.

check McMaster-Carr, they have a wide variety of hardware. Mike

Denny, the springs are easy to remove and replace, no special tools needed. I just want to replace all of the little springs as most of what I have are rusty and I thought it might help firm the seat up.

ctheusa, good solid seats are hard to find in the Mid-Atlantic area. What I have is very solid, I have about 10-12 broken little springs (not the big coil springs) and figured I'd replace them all while I have the seat apart.

I ordered "cut to length" springs from McMaster-Carr yesterday and they showed up today...that's fast service. They look like they will work.

Agreed- thought it was the large verticle springs deformed. Sounds doable now.
(Need to read better)
