I ordered a new gas tank and sending unit for a 49. The old gas tank drained out of the bottom, the new one has a plug in the bottom and the sending unit has a sock and pulls the gas from the top. I assume that this will still work, but am looking for some feed back. Should i look at maintaining the gravity feed and get a new sending unit, or will this work? Thanks. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | Many people think that this change, which started in 1954, is a better arrangement. Sediment in the tank will not as easily plug the outflow of fuel.

The top feed works great w/the stock fuel pump, haven't had any fuel related issues since.
