I'm using the k5 as a practice project before I do start on the stovebolt.

I'm planning to strip it to bare metal, do the body work (of which there is very little that needs done), and then paint it with zero rust.

I'm going to spray it with black zero rust, and then do some speed-liner around the rockers. there will also be speed-liner on all mirrors, steps, grills etc.

I started stripping with a wire wheel on my die grinder, and it is just going to take too long. I'm wondering how much faster it would be to buy a bigger wire wheel to put on my grinder, or this there is another recommeneded method such as paint stripper & then a sander to rough up the metal so the zero rust will adhere to it properly.

SOLO, The only thing I'll say about paint stipper is if you use it, try and keep it away from seams and inside of panels you don't want stripped. If it gets into seams and is not neutralized it can come out later and bubble/lift the paint by the seams. Also you would probably want to keep it out of the inside of the cowl too.
You can always strip these areas prior to using a paint stripping product. I like using a DA sander (air powered) with an 80 grit paper to strip paint.

living where I do in WY I think I could use, and get away with using a stripper.

however, I want to use this as a practice project to get more familiar with the tools etc. I'm thinking my best approach will be an orbital sander with some good course sand paper.

Whitelighning is absolutely right use a da sander and strip it donot use stripper if you dont neutrilizer it all even when you prime the truck it will bubble on you especially in the seams and ll hard to get into areas . some strippers water doesnt phase it and hear toy think it is neutrilized gl ol buddy.

I got some 60 grit sand paper for my hand sander last night, and I'm going to go at it until I get my DA.

I had already decided not to use the stripper. I have two autistic kids, and I just can't chance using the stuff with them around. they just don't understand danger, and I'm quite sure my son would eat the stuff!

the 60 grip paper with just a hand sander works quite well so I think with a DA I could strip the paint in no time. until that thing gets here I'm going to let my arm get plenty tired though!

I don't have a ton of time to strip paint for a few days. I'm taking advantage of the warm weather (that is just agove 40 degrees ) to spray paint and clean the parts for my k5. I get the engine back in about a week and a half. Lets just say I am very excited to get my k5 back on the road!
