There are lots of posts in the drivetrain section, but in my 48 3/4 ton, I used a 4.11 axle out of a 2004 chevy 2500 HD. The parking brake cables work and look ok also. faster gears, disc brakes... The only draw back is the new axle is ~4-5 inches wider.

I haven't finished it yet but I have a 14 bolt and I'am adapting rear disc from an 05 GM 3/4 ton, probably same as above. Same width as original.

They come in vans and pickups, dually, all different widths, get out your tape measure to find what width fits your truck, then you know what truck to look for ratio in.
