A scan from a shop manual would be cool. i have a 48 GMC, doors without the vents. Thanks!

There's a felt piece that gets attached to the chrome trim on the inside of the door; a rubber piece (sort of like a wiper blade) that goes in a slot on the door and "wipes" the glass on the outside; a rubber seal that goes around the door frame on the cab and is held on by two metal trim pieces that are held on with screws; a rubber seal that goes around the door itself and is held on with glue; a rubber piece that goes on the bottom and is held on with the door moulding; and the "felts" that go inside the door around the window channel. The kit costs $167.95 and includes everything you need to do both doors. And boy does it make a difference. All the rattles are gone. If you want, I can take some pictures with the digicam and put them on a web page so you can see what I'm talking about. I pulled out some rusted channel type metal pieces (through the hole in the bottom of the door!) where did those pieces fit? do they guide the glass inside the door? Where can i get them?

But, contact, mothertrucker, he is on this forum and can be found through the swapmeet. I bet he can sell you all the moving parts necessary. Whether you can actually make it work in a rusted out shell of a door, I cannot tell you. Good luck. I think I might have just bought some doors that worked for replacements.

The channel that you pulled out the bottom of the door is the (vertical door glass channel guide)and you have (2) per door. Theirs one that is tack welded to the front inner skin of the door jamb and the other is at the rear of the door jam and it's removeable. The rear guide has (3) screws securing it to the door skin. You can see two screws side by side down from the latch when you open the door and their another one hidden almost at the top of the window viewing area on the inside "right under the door glass channel. So to get to the inner screw you'll have to remove the glass and pull what's left of the glass channel out. Those vertical guides keep the glass stable when rolled down and if one is falling apart I can see why the door glass is flopping around. Chevy Duty sells the removable rear channel guide. If it's the front that's falling apart, just have someone weld in a rear guide up front. I did that on my doors.
Joe
