The solonoid on the starter has a lug for battery connect, and 2 other terminals one marked "R" and the other marked "S". I have an extra hole in the dash where I intend to install a momentary contact pushbutton that has 2 terminals to replace the stomper. How do I wire the p/b and starter up. As always, thanks for your responses | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,061 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,061 | Hy ryanz, I'll start by saying that there were twelve volt stomp starters for the 55B or second series up to the 59 model year, if you'd prefer to go that route. For the solenoid starter there are a couple of different ways to wire it, power for the start button can be taken from a battery source or from an ignition source. Hook whichever power source you choose to one terminal of the start button, run a wire from the other terminal of the start button to the "S" terminal on the solenoid. From the "R" terminal on the solenoid run a wire up to the output side of the ballast resistor (the terminal that connects to the ignition coil) or the input terminal of the ignition coil, and you should be good to go, hope that helps. | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 87 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 87 | Same here. 1938 pickup with 1954 235 on stand setup for stomp starter. Using son off starter setup.

The wires for the starter are as follows. R, is not needed. S is to the push button and the remaining is the Battery as you mentioned. The other post on the push button is to the ignition circuit.Use the same wire that goes to the coil. If you want to keep the "stomp" starter for the truck, then match the starter to the flywheel. A 6 volt starter to a 6 volt flywheel. If you have the original flywheel on your 61 261 then use a 12 volt starter from a 55 to 57 Task Force truck and keep the "stomp" stuff on the bell housing. You will need the bell housing from the 216 to fit the 261 into your truck. If you need to use the bell housing from the 261 the mounts are angled and you will need to adjust the cross member for that.
