The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Interiors Garnish on inside window moulding

I have another dumb question on my doors. When I started to clean up the inside mouldings that go around the side windows I discovered a garnish with a chrome strip on the top and what must have been a small rubber strip at one time. First 2 pictures are of the right side garnish, next two are of the left side garnish, and last one is of the heavy wire staple thru the garnish into the moulding. Each are held in place with 4 wire staples. The garnish measures 17 5/8" long and is 1/2" wide. I think I found it listed in the parts catalog I have from Chevy printed in 1956 which covers 1929-1956. My first question is does anyone make these now? My next question is are the repros any good? And lastly is this something that even matters? Thanks guys.

The venders carry them. Just make sure you find the ones that have the built-in bend at the end of them. Good luck attaching them with the staples. Most people glue them on.

They can be re-installed as the original was with staples. The
reproduction staples from the vendor did not have the correct
spacing on the legs so I made a simple punch & die to form
them from safety wire with the correct spacing as the original
staples.
I transferred the holes from the window garnish to the strip
with a 90° angled scriber then pre-drilled each hole. Taking
them one at a time without bending the staples, till they were
all drill. This assured that they all lined up before setting
the staples. I made a special pair of pliers by welding and
reshaping the jaws to bend the staples tight on the back side.

Since I posted the question I looked at some different sources and found many don't carry these but did order a set from LMC. No idea on quality tho. I thought using staples like the original might be better than trying to glue the piece on. Denny, I also have thought of using wire to make replacement staples. Thanks for the pictures and narrative on doing it. I should have gotten these before but didn't notice the things until I started to clean up the mouldings for painting.
