Have a '41 suburban. The tranny is not syncronized and is probably on its last legs anyway. I thought there was a swap or something I could do to make it a sync'ed tranny and still keep the same engine and rear (with torque tube). I know I've seen info about this somewhere but it's been years since I saw it.
Thanks in advance for any help!!

You could go with a syncro three speed. If you want to keep a four speed, the best fit for keeping the torque tube would probably be an SM420 (1948-54) with the torque tube bell. You will need to modify the bell housing (machine out) to fit the tranny or use and modify a bell housing from around 1950 to support your clutch and brake pedal assemble. The SM420 is about 2" longer than your old crash box tranny, so you will need to shorten your torque tube and propellor shaft.

Doable but not a weekend project. This assumes a 1/2 ton. 3/4 ton a bit different.

Best option by far is the original 1941 3 speed. The fourth gear adds no value. If you change to the three speed, you will need a different pedal mounting bracket and floor board.

The 1940-46 3 speed is the easiest swap. These transmissions are not synchronized in first gear though.
As mentioned above being that the 3 speed is narrower the clutch/brake mount will either need replacing with a 3 speed mount, or use spacers between the mount and transmission.
