The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop drooping outside door handles

My 1940 1/2 ton has drooping outside door handles. The door opens and closes without a problem. How do I get them to return to horizontal and stay? It really looks out of place to have them pointing to the gound.

ok, here is what I did ..
took the door handle off ,
put the retaining screw back in the threads,
clamped the screw end in the vice,
gently heated the shaft right by the vice jaws,(not near the chrome)
once the shaft was red hot,
gently twisted the handle with the big grip pliers until the handle was at the required angle.
Cleaned it all up and reinstalled the handle.

Pheasant, The door handles on my '45 sagged too. The exterior "door handle return springs" were missing on both of my door handles. Chevs of the 40s sells them. They make the outside door handles pop up to horizonal when you let go of them.

A short term fix on the round part of the handle that goes into the door there is a pin that goes through the handle. Push the pin out and save it so when you replace the spring you can put it back. This will let you turn the cylinder inside the handle. It's a tight fit almost like it was pressed in.
