My hood was damaged in a Arkansas tornado several years ago. Having a real hard time getting it streight. are all the AD trucks hoods the same? dose any hood off the cars from the same years fit? Found a salvage yard in Possum Grape, AR. that has nothing but Ventage autos and has several hoods that could fit. So the vintage old man said when I called. Thanks grin

mallard,

All Advance Design (1947.5 - 1955.5) hoods are interchangeable - I was told. The only hood that might not match 1947.5-1953 is the 1954 hood.

Even if the '54 (and early '55) hood works with 1947.5-53 fenders and grills, to the purist there is a difference in the '54 hood - where the front emblem attaches to the hood, the '54 hood is smooth while the 47.5-53 hood have a "dimple" where the four emblem posts go through the hood. This difference is not noticeable when the front hood emblem is installed.

I trust that others will correct me if I am wrong.

I'll add just one small modifacation to your post. 1/2 ton-1 ton is one size ans 1.5 ton -2 ton is larger...This also goes for the hood strip, fenders, grille, front splash pan, front hood emblem, radiator, core support and radiator grille upper baffle. Basically everything forward of the firewall is different.

I will add one more small detail. The hoods are the same with minor emblem mounting differences. One thing to be sure of is GMC hoods will not fit! Car hoods will not interchange. When looking for a hood be sure to take care in finding ones that don't have the typical basket ball dimples or badly bent ends where they have stood against a wall for years and the cowl side is all bent up. Check for good latching mechanisms these tend to get beat up and rusted in place making them difficult to remove and replace. Another area to look for damage is the hinge holes make sure they are not badly stripped where you may have to use an easy out to remove a broken bolt or retap and use a larger bolt. There are quite a few hoods available out here I am sure they are available near you too. .............g grin

Let me add, that cowl side dent where the trailing edge of the hood where it meets the cowl gets bent is a MUTHA to repair.

Mallard I was at vintage yard CTC Auto Ranch in Denton Tx last week. Thay have 10-15 trucks of 47-53 vintage. Higher than heck on prices but # is 800-484-6199. Good Luck.
