I am getting ready to start work on the gauge R&R, starting with the ammeter. I have confirmed that it is functional and used stel wool across the to smooth it down. Now for the face plate - I have a set of decals from Chevsofthe40"s, p/n1564308B. Are these truly water transfere decals like we used on our plastic models 50 years ago? Or do they have a pressure sensitive adhevsive on the back?

Each of the gauges has a lip around the outer edge. Should I trim the drcal to fit with in this lip, or is it expected to wrap up the lip?

BobS46, the decals from Chevsofthe40's are pressure sensitive adhesive, Did you remove the gauge face from the amp gauge? They are tough to remount unless you have the right rivets and setting tools.

The decals are good quality and go around the face really well, the small rivets that hold the face on are sometimes bothersome.
I cut around them and they worked fine (used a small x-acto knife). I didn't have to trim the decal other than that.

Thanks, I did figure out how to get the decals on without causing any damage. I did not remove the dial face - sounded like opening a can of worms. But I had not thought of cutting around the rivets. Otherwise, no trimming has been needed, unless it will be on the speedo, as someone else has suggested.
