Just ordered the complete LMC 21 Gallon kit for bed mounting the fuel tank.

Question for those that installed the LMC 21 Gallon side fill kit in their Square Body trucks. (Not interested in other tank configurations as there are liable to be differences.)

Tank supposedly measures 13" deep. This is the exact same depth from the bed cross member to the bottom edge of the spare tire....the spare tire mount adding several inches for about 16" below the bottom of the bed cross member.

So......do ya really have to notch the bed cross member for the install of this particular tank? (I understand about taking out the spare tire crossmember.)

If so, is this notching of the bed cross member required in order to get the side fill pipe up and above the drivers side frame rail?

Also, for the exterior of the tank. Paint? Bed Liner? Undercoat? Would like it black so its not so shiny since it will show a lot even with the hitch installed behind it.

?? Square body is what we call the 65 C10 Short Bed Step Side I'm driving.

Or do you mean that's why this part of the board is slower than a growing glacer? Not many 60-66 drivers on it?

Oh well....tank arrived today. Guess its academic since this weekend I can drop the spare and raise the tank in place for a first check.

Oh where oh where to put the filler neck! Decisions decisions.

'65 C10 Short Step... I got one of those too! yahoo

As for my square body comment, the 1973 to 1987 Chevy trucks are a.k.a."Square Bodies":https://www.google.com/search?q=square+body&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=sb

Good to read you received the tank. I researched the 21 gallon Blazer style tanks when I installed a rear tank on my truck. Some folks find the blazer style tanks hang down to low, some folks think they are "just right". The reason folks notch the cross members is to try to tuck it up out of site as much as possible. This is especially critical if you don't run a rear bumper. The bumper will hide the blazer tank, some what.

Got any links to some photos of your truck?

Okay. Later is squarebody. Lotsa folks round here is confused then.

As for tucking. I ain't if I don't have to. Measured the tank out of the box. Its 13" deep. Same distance as the bottom of the large crossmember to the bottom of the spare tire. So, it shouldn't hang down too low...in fact it'll be a bit better clearance since the tire carrier will be gone.

Neck might be an issue....its pretty close to the location of that bed sill. If the neck clears the frame rail and the cross sill on initial installation I can put my mental energies in to deciding where and how to mount the filler neck. Though I'm thinkin simple 65 C10 filler neck in the fender with cab style grommet for a factory kind of look.
