In all these years of restoring, painting and prettying-up stuff, I had never used POR15. I painted my manifolds with the 1400 degrees Manifold paint and the engine in Gray engine paint. It looks supernice and that stuff is rock-hard. I'll have pics soon.

I use it often for everything,first heard of it in 1991,couldn't believe how hard it dries,just keep it out of the sunlight.

Love POR-15, with one caution...when they say permanent, they mean it. Wore that chassis black on both arms for about three weeks.

Revdodd, funny you should mention that: my hands have been stained for days! I accidentally spilled some of the stuff while working...
It's only the next day that I noticed the inscription on the lid: do not get POR15 on your skin, only TIME can remove it. Boy is that true...

Hey I've been using a product called Chassis Saver instead of the POR stuff. It's $68/gallon where POR is $95/gallon. Has anybody else tried this? I actually like it better and the company has great tech support.

Why can't you leave POR 15 out in direct sunlight?

Do it work to cover/paint rusty body panels?

The bottom edge of the doors on my 93 Suzuki have started to rust. Would POR 15 work if I sanded down the rusty sections and painted the lower 6 inches of the doors and the rocker panels?

The direct sunlight makes it hazy and cloudy looking. The way I understood it from the guys that sell it, that is the only draw back. It does't hurt the way it protects your metal. I might add that I have used it on my whole rolling chassis. Which right now, is not exactly rolling. But, it will be soon. It is great stuff to work with.

on the por-15 website.. I read it once... if it is going to bein sunlight na du want it to look nice, they suggest painting over it. All the details on how to prep and paint are there on the site.

To use up a little I had left over I brushed a few welded joints on a chain link fence that had started to rust to see what the sun would do to POR-15. Did not take long for it to deteriorate (a couple of months). Six months later it is dull black and broken down completely. Touch it and you get a smudge on your fingers much like what you get when sanding paint or picking up a piece of chalk. I can rub it off down to the bare metal once more. If whatever you coat with POR-15 will be exposed to sunlight the manufacturer does indeed recommend painting over it.

Zerorust is also supposed to deteriorate in UV rays (sunlight). But, I have done a similar test with it and after about a year of direct sunlight exposure it is still as fresh as the day I put it on. Rock hard too.
