All the truck catalogs list Door Windlace. But my old weatherbeaten Burb doesn't have anything that looks like the pictures, and nowhere have I found where it goes and why? Is it the same as weatherstriping? :confused:

What year truck do you have?

Side door windlace should be the same on pick-up and suburban trucks (except, perhaps, for the color). By windlace, I am referring to the rubber seal that mounts inside the door frame of the cab and seals the door when it is closed - is this what you are referring to? There is also a rubber seal around the door itself and a lower windlace seal attached to the floor with a retainer.

There were at least 2 styles of windlace between 47-54. As I recall, the earlier type (47 to early 49) had screw-on windlace retainer(s) anfrom late 49 to early 55 there was a track welded to the inside edge of the door opening (the windlace slid into this track).

I have a 1952 Suburban. Is the windlace the same as weatherstripping? If not, what's the difference in function? Thanks!

Different names are used by different people (and sometimes by the same people).

First, I assume you are asking about the side doors.

There is a rubber seal that is glued to the edge of the door - this might be called the door weatherstrip.

There is a rubber seal that goes around the door opening in the cab - this is called the cab windlace and it slides in a track that runs from the floor on the dash side of the door opening to the floor on the rear side of the door opening. This track is spot/tack welded to the cab and is is somestimes rusted, bent, or partially missing).

Yes, a picture would help. I checked, and I do have the ridge around the door and bits on rubber. So, if this ridge is intact, and I can install windlace around the door, do I still need weatherstrip too? That sounds redundant. Thanks!

Forgive my photography but one truck is masked for painting and the other is resting for the winter.

For a good wind/water seal (and a decrease in rattles and wind noise), I would suggest using all seals. I forgot to mention the lower door windlace rubber (held to the floor of the cab with a screwed-on retainer) and that the door seal (weatherstrip) is glued on except at the bottom where there is a screwed-on seal retainer.
